America First Policies Unveils Real-Time Illegal Immigration “Ticker Truck”

America First Policies today announced that it has developed a “ticker” that displays the estimated number of illegal attempted border crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border since the start of the new year. The ticker was launched on the America First Policies homepage today.

In addition, a truck displaying a mobile billboard with the ever-increasing real-time number also hit the streets of Washington, D.C., this morning. For seven days (Feb. 6 to Feb. 12), from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the truck will follow a standard route that loops around the Supreme Court, the National Mall, Capitol Hill, and the White House.

“Our ticker is a real-time reminder of the ticking time bomb happening at our border, and a wake-up call to Congress that the time has come, quite literally, to build the wall,” said Erin Montgomery, communications director for America First Policies. “Every 48 seconds, another person attempts to illegally cross our southern border. That’s 1,809 people per day. How many illegal crossings will it take before Congress follows President Trump’s lead and puts the safety and security of the American people first?”

The website ticker and mobile billboard are part of a $1.1 million advocacy campaign by America First Policies to secure our borders. The nonprofit has also launched national television and digital ads that show the devastating consequences of an unsecure border.

The estimate on the ticker is based on U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Southwest Border Apprehensions for Fiscal Year 2018 and the first two months of Fiscal Year 2019 (October and November 2018), as well as the Department of Homeland Security’s Border Security Metrics Report from May 1, 2018, which estimates the Border Patrol had a 64.8 percent apprehension rate for illegal entrants between ports of entry on the southwestern border in 2016 (Table 1, page 11).
