“Operation Warp Speed” and a Vaccination by the End of the Year
During a Sunday evening town hall on Fox News, President Donald J. Trump said he is very confident that there will be a vaccine for COVID-19 by the end of the year.
The entire Administration is pushing hard for therapies and a vaccine in a project called “Operation Warp Speed.”
This represents the Administration’s vast efforts to forge a private and public sector partnership to enhance research and diagnostic trials.
Experts in the field are largely in agreement with the President’s timeline for a vaccine.
Oxford University researcher John Bell is testing a vaccine on six rhesus macaque monkeys who recovered after being exposed to the virus.
In his interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Bell spoke about the vaccine and said, “we’re pretty sure we’ll get a signal by June about whether this works or not.”
During an interview with Savannah Guthrie on NBC, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said it is possible to have hundreds of millions of doses of a vaccine ready by January.
The President is insisting on the rapid development of a vaccine and pushing government agencies and pharmaceutical companies to use every resource at their disposal.
President Trump said we are building the supply lines for a vaccine and Johnson & Johnson recently announced a collaboration with Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies and Emergent BioSolutions, Inc. to increase the manufacturing of its lead vaccine candidate.
Furthermore, Johnson & Johnson is working to reach Phase 1 human clinical studies by September.
During his Fox town hall, the President indicated the U.S. is working with other countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia regarding a vaccine and continue to share data.
While there are many trials underway and progress is being made, the President is fueled by the need of the most vulnerable to have a vaccine and life-saving therapies.
President Trump continues to boldly lead the United States throughout this time and is committed to defeating the invisible enemy.
