The Iranian Nuclear Deal

Taking an America First Approach to Foreign Policy

America First Policies believes that all agreements the United States enters should be properly defined and not leave loopholes that our adversaries can capitalize on. That’s why we strongly support the decision to remove the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), more commonly known as the Iranian Nuclear Deal, in its current form. This disastrous deal failed to address Tehran’s Intercontinental Missile Ballistic (ICBM) program, did not provide adequate access to international inspectors at key military locations, left the regime’s funding of terrorism untouched, and wouldn’t permanently halt the Islamist state from acquiring a nuclear weapon. The Iranian regime has consistently shown itself to be misaligned with the interests of the United States and our allies while supporting destabilization across the Middle East.

The Facts:

  • Iran has been designated as a sponsor of state terrorism since 1984 by the United States Department of State. Additionally, the Islamist state has been listed more than once as the top sponsor worldwide.
  • Nuclear experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have been refused access to key military sites where nuclear proliferation could be occurring.
  • The JCPOA fails to address Iran’s ICBM program in its current form. If this capability continues to be developed, it poses a serious threat to U.S. national security.
  • Iran will still have the ability to develop a nuclear weapon in time thanks to the “sunset clauses” in the agreement.
  • Since the deal was signed, Iran has dramatically increased its support of radical Islamist groups and authoritarian dictators, including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. According to the U.N. Special Envoy to Iran, Staffan de Mistura, Iran is contributing $6 billion per year to the Syrian regime.
